-THIS SUNDAY'S SERMON- Jesus addresses retaliation

Dear River Family,

We live in a world that promotes selfishness. With this selfishness comes battles for entitlement, fairness, getting even, and even getting ahead. Many of us are familiar with the phrase, "I don't get mad, I get even." This is the world we live in, but as Christians, we are called to live and look much different from this world in which we live. We are of a different kingdom, the kingdom of God.

This Sunday, Lord willing, we will focus our attention on Matthew 5:38-42. Luke 6:27-31 is a parallel passage that will be helpful in your reading and study. The following passages will also prove helpful:

Exodus 21:23-24 Matthew 5:9-12 1 Peter 3:9-17 Romans 12:14-21 1 Peter 2:18-20 Colossians 3:22-25

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; He will surely do it.

Grace and Peace,

Eric
